Is A Mini Facelift For Me?

When patients want a surgically reverse the loss skin firmness and muscle tone in the lower and middle part of the face when jowls and sagging skin become moderate to severe, a mini facelift may be the answer. A mini-facelift lifts and tightens the skin and muscles from the cheeks to the neck to eliminate sagging skin and wrinkles.

What’s the surgical difference between a mini facelift and a complete facelift?  Surgically speaking, the main difference is that the forehead and eye areas are not treated during the mini facelift. This convenient in-office procedure restores definition and skin firmness and is ideal for patients who are experiencing the early to moderate signs of facial aging that can no longer be effectively addressed with fillers and other non-surgical treatments alone.

Several benefits make a mini-facelift an appealing option for many patients:

  • An Outpatient Procedure. Patients receive treatment in Dr. Boyd’s office under local anesthesia.  Incisions are made behind the ears, rather than the hairline. The procedure usually takes 45-90 minutes depending on the particulars of each case.  In some instances, the mini-facelift is combined with a facial implant or other treatment and does not require hospitalization.
  • Shorter Recovery Time. Patients are go home wearing a bandage that is kept in place for the first two days and sleep with their head and neck elevated. Most patients can return to work in a week, or sooner.  One week after surgery, patients return to have Dr. Boyd remove their sutures and check on their healing.
  • Less Pain and Discomfort. Because the surgery is less invasive, the moderate pain is often managed with oral pain medication and cold packs.
  • Lasting Results. Patients typically enjoy the full benefit of the mini facelift for 5-10 years, depending on the patient’s lifestyle.
