Ear Pinning Surgery (Otoplasty)
The Inconspicuous Ear
Ears are ideally positioned close to the side of the head. Otoplasty, otherwise commonly known as “pinning of the ears,” is the procedure of choice in correcting protruding ears. Corrective surgery is possible before the age of eight, but it can be performed throughout adulthood. Other ear deformities can also be corrected by surgery.
In young children, a general anesthetic is generally advised for this procedure. In adults, however, local anesthesia is most often used and can be performed here in the office. A turban-type bandage is worn for several days after surgery. Most patients can return to their normal routine in a week.
