Rhinoplasty (Nasal Surgery) – Improve the Shape of Your Nose

What is the ideal nose? While the answer is influenced by culture and ethnic background, the ideal nose is one which is in harmony with your face. The height, length and width should be balanced and the contour should not draw attention to a specific aspect of the nose.

Rhinoplasty (cosmetic nasal surgery) can improve the shape of your nose. Alterations can be performed to shorten a long nose, narrow a wide nose, reduce a wide tip, lower a high nose, straighten a crooked nose, and improve the breathing in cases of nasal stuffiness. When surgery is performed to improve nasal breathing, the procedure is called septorhinoplasty. The nose should not be turned up nor the bridge lowered excessively. This concept is in keeping with the goal of reshaping the nose so that the nose is in balance with the other facial structures and has a natural, unoperated appearance. To maximize the appearance of your profile, augmentation of the chin may be recommended. This will depend on the degree of development of your jaw bone.  In the end, harmony and balance outweigh mathematical formulas in determining the ideal nose for an individual; thus, cosmetic surgery becomes an art that requires a surgeon who considers your face in its entirety.

Rhinoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis under intravenous sedation. You will wear an external splint on the nose for 7 days. During this time, you can resume non-stressful activities like bathing, shampooing, and walking. After the splint is removed, the nose will be swollen. Within 2 weeks following surgery, most patients can return to work and resume full activities. The final results may not be evident for several weeks following surgery.k

If you are considering nasal surgery, remember that most insurance companies will only pay for procedures that improve breathing or restore appearance after a deforming fracture. Cosmetic changes are not covered by insurance and we have financing options available.
